Jean Hess' paintings address the transcendent sublime, both personally and aesthetically, with an emphasis upon natural forms and the play of light. Seductive surfaces are the result of gradually building multiple layers of resin and pigment so that light is refracted down into earlier strata. Paint is added thinly, sanded or rubbed, blurring each successive layer. Plant material is painted over and later torn off so that earlier layers re-emerge. Light is trapped all along the way, so that the last layers glow subtly.
Mixed Media on canvas. Prices range from $900-$6,000.
